The Ministry of Public Health opened the Bangrak Vaccination and Health Center at the Bangrak Medical Institute. These vaccines are planned to be provided for Chinese citizens residing in Thailand, according to the list of names provided by the embassy as well as Thai students and people going to study or train abroad. This center serves to vaccinate at least 180 people a day.
Today (20 May 2021) at the Bangrak Medical Institute in Bangkok, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Ministry of Public Health, along with Mr. Yang Xin, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand, Dr. Kiattiphum Wongrajit, the Permanent Secretariat of the Ministry of Public Health, and Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong, Director-General, Department of Disease Control jointly opened the Bangrak Vaccination and Health Center, at the Bangrak Medical Institute.
Mr. Anutin said that the Thai government has had a long relationship with the Chinese government. Recently, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand has coordinated with Thailand to be able to order the Sinovac vaccine to for use in emergency situations since the outbreak occurred in Samut Sakhon province to control the epidemic and reduce serious illness and death. It has also protected medical and public health personnel, and frontline workers to maintain the country's public health system. The Sinovac vaccines from China were gradually imported into the country before the original plan of June 2021. From February 28 to May 20, 2021, a total of 5.5 million doses were brought into Thailand. Furthermore, the Chinese government has donated another 1 million doses of the vaccine, of which 500,000 doses were received on May 14, 2021. Therefore, this donated lot of vaccines will be administered to more than 100,000 people holding Chinese passports enlisted by the embassy and will also be provided to Thai people including students and agency personnel studying or training abroad. Vaccines will include other foreigners in the next phase.
"The Chinese government supports the Sinovac vaccine to be administered to Chinese people in Thailand and this is considered to complement the vaccine services to cover all population groups, including foreigners. This support helps to accelerate vaccine administration and speed up mass immunization in Thailand,” said Mr. Anutin.
The Ministry of Public Health established the Bangrak Vaccination and Health Center using the 11th floor of the Bangrak Medical Institute, which is a new building under the Department of Disease Control.
