The Department of Disease Control(DDC) Thailand in collaboration with the Russia Federation hosted the EAS meeting to strengthen the preparedness for Infectious diseases with Pandemic Potential on October 16- 17, 2019 at DDC, Nonthaburi, Thailand.
Dr. M.L. Somchai Chakapan, Chairman of the Advisor Committee to Minister of Public Health, H.E. Dr. Anna Popova, Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well- Being, Russia, and Dr. Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, Director General of Department of Disease Control, Thailand delivered opening remarks and attended this crucial meeting. During the meeting, representatives from international organizations such as WHO, FAO, OIE, and 5 EAS participating countries shared experience and best practice on the pandemics preparedness and response, including the challenges and a gap of implementation.
At the end of the meeting, all participants had endorsed “the Co –Chairs’ Summary of the meeting on strengthening the preparedness for Infectious diseases with Pandemic Potential among EAS Participating Countries” which will highlight ways and means for EAS participating countries to collaborate in addressing emerging infectious diseases in the region. In addition, all distinguished delegates visited at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute, DDC to learn EIDs care management such as the case of SARS,and MERS as well as infectious control in hospital.
On behalf of DDC, we would like to thank the relevant organizations for the great support to this meeting: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, The ASEAN Secretariat, Division of Communicable Disease, Office of Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Risk Communication and Health Behavioral development and Office of International Cooperation, DDC for making this meeting memorable and fruitful. DDC hopes that this meeting will be a good step for enhancing the EAS network and collaboration to fight against the pandemics and emerging infectious disease in the region effectively.
